Lap 3 Alzen into the tyre wall coming into the Motodrom. Dumbreck spins at Sachskurve, continues
Lap 4 Aiello leads from Ekstrom, Alesi, Abt, Fassler and Schneider.
Lap 6 Wendlinger attacks Scheider for seventh and gets past. Then Tomczyk also past Scheider. Abt attacks Alesi and gets past after contact
Lap 7 Alesi has dropped back to fifth, Fassler also past
Lap 10 Stop & go penalty for Alain Menu
Lap 11 Fassler has spun, dropped back to ninth
Lap 12 Fassler has come off the track and has hit the tyre wall coming into the Motodrom. Alain Menu comes in for his Stop & go
Lap 13 Fassler into the pits - tyre change. Tomczyk, Alesi and Albers into the pits
Lap 14 Abt, Huisman, Jager, Alzen and Reuter into the pits. Reuter stuck for a long time
Lap 15 Aiello, Schneider into the pits, Reuter goes out again after losing one lap
Lap 16 Tomczyk off the track at the Sachskurve, stuck in the gravel trap. Ekstrom into the pits
Lap 18 Tomczyk into the pits, retires. Aiello leads from Mucke, who has yet to pit. Bartels into the pits
Lap 19 Wendlinger, Tiemann, Winkelhock into the pits
Lap 22 Mucke, Huisman into the pits. Now, all drivers have completed their pit stop. Marcel Tiemann's right front door is open
Lap 23 Mucke has spun after contact with Menu, continues
Lap 24 Mucke into the pits after excursion
Lap 25 Timo Scheider is closing on Bernd Schneider for fifth place

Lap 30 Wendlinger attacks Timo Scheider for fifth place, Schneider pulls away in fourth
Lap 32 Reuter off the track. Olivier, Alzen, Dumbreck all off the track at the Querspange
Lap 33 Tiemann, Dumbreck, Reuter into the pits. Reuter and Dumbreck retire, Tiemann continues
Lap 37 Race leader Aiello has problems getting past Yves Olivier, who is about to be lapped. Abt off the track coming into the Motodrom
Lap 39 Final lap. Finish order: Aiello wins from Ekstrom, Alesi is third on his DTM-debut, Schneider comes home in fourth place from Timo Scheider and Karl Wendlinger.
